It has finally become apparent that Lady Gaga Is the last bastion of REAL pop music. She can simultaneously sing, dance, write decent songs, perform these songs and look good doing so while audiences watch with awe. That is not just an artist, but a star. The evidence came within a the two-hour MTV VMA Awards last night from Brooklyn, NY, which Gaga opened the show with a performance of her new single Applause, taken from her forthcoming 4th release ARTPOP, featured in the official video below. The quality of the show in general went south as soon as she had finished. Apart from Justin Timberlake’s exceptional performance, because let’s face it, it’s JT, nothing stood out whatsoever as memorable or anything remotely decent. The fact that Kanye West still needs to use auto-tune says too much about where his “talents” lie. Yes, he’s written a few good tunes as a successful artist would, but seriously, the joke isn’t funny anymore. #fishsticks Other performances on the night came from Drake, Katy Perry, Austin Mahone in the pre-show (Who?) and Macklemore ft Ryan Lewis. I’ve never even heard of the last 2 ‘til last night, but apart from the Eminem wannabe rapping which is 10 years too late, none of these fuckers could carry a note if it came in an envelope. Use that as a line in your next rhyme Macklemore, you’re welcome! What the actually hell is Miley Cyrus and how can I erase it from memory for evolutions sake? This, quite frankly, is another side to the problem. Pop music has completely lost direction. Instead of Twerking it, why aren't these one drectional/dimensional fuckers WORKING at it? Forgive me for sounding critical of pop music, because anyone that doesn’t like pop music immediately thinks of the word shit, but there is, sorry, was good pop music out there and there still is, somewhere on your iPod or in your cd collection. Music in general used to have passion, soul, energy, creativity, style and substance. If half these fuckers are celebrated as the cream of the crop then the crop is stale, mouldy and in serious need of revitalisation. I would have thought that being an MTV Awards show we would have at least seen some Rock or Metal acts, but no. Only the exception of 30 Seconds To Mars carrying the Rock flag winning best Rock Video Award is a small consolation to an otherwise pointless waste of airtime and twitter updates. All of this without even uttering the name Taylor Swift, but now that I’ve mentioned it, the swelling head of arrogance that she has become. Taylor, darling, come back down to planet earth when you’ve learned how to write a song that’s not about one of your thousand pointless and pretentious relationships. All your songs sound the same, are the same and are boring as your name. Have something to say or fuck off. Actually, just fuck off. An honourable mention for One Direction must be acknowledged. mazel tov motherfuckers, even with your millions of record sales, female fans and awards you STILL couldn’t hold a candle to a one minute ‘NSYNC reunion. Take note boys, that’s what a real pop band looked like once upon a time, substance included. This is a testament to the brilliance that is Justin Timberlake, who can pull of the curly blonde mop top, venture off to do his own thing successfully with the assistance of Pharrell & Timbaland, jump ship into a pretty decent acting career to date then, after buying the baron wasteland in Myspace, jump back to the music back to music, release a pretty decent new record and show every pop star and wannabe X Factor contestant how it’s really done. Something needs to change. Music needs a change, desperately. Two people can’t fly the flag for one genre. Don’t even look at Madonna, that shit is old hat. It’s not just pop music, rock too, even metal. Hip-hop seems to be doing reasonably well apart from the exceptionally untalented Lil’ Wayne who needs to learn the guitar instead of pretending to play it live, Music needs saving. Record companies, MTV, Simon Cowell, your days of churning out shit music from talentless acts needs to stop immediately. Shows like Idol & Factor aren’t helping, they create winners who rarely get to release a record and if they do, it flops and more money has been pissed down the proverbial drain. Stop wasting time with this crap. Get off your asses and search for REAL talent, there’s this thing called the internet, fucking use it. Let the campaign begin.
